Bringing “Real Love” to Family School 32 in Yonkers, NY

On March 23, 2023, the John Lennon Real Love Project came to Family School 23 in Yonkers, NY.

Under the exuberant leadership of Principal Andrew Cohen, the school has a warm and inviting vibe. Principal Cohen attended part of each of the four songwriting sessions with students.

Program leaders Beth and Scott Bierko met with two 7th grade and 8th grade classes to talk about John Lennon’s life, music and the importance of love in his life.  Following a lively dialogue, each student group wrote a new verse to “Real Love.”

The first class sang, “kindness is the key to our friendships.”

The second class sang, “when alone or in despair, there’s always someone waiting there.”

The third class sang of “listening to heart with other.”

The fourth class sang of “sharing and respecting each other surrounded by love.”

At the end of a moving day, Principal Cohen said, “The John Lennon Real Love Project provided our students with the opportunity to express themselves and they enjoyed every minute!”
