THE JOHN LENNON Tribute concert

From its humble beginnings in 1981 at our former workshop studio just down the block from the Dakota, Theatre Within’s Annual John Lennon Tribute has evolved into a vitally important New York City cultural event, attracting top artists and fans from around the country.

The longest running John Lennon tribute concert in the world and the only event of its kind to be sanctioned by Yoko Ono, the Tribute joyfully celebrates John Lennon’s life, music and timeless message of peace and love.

 Notable Tribute performers include Jackson Browne, Debbie Harry, Ben E. King, Judy Collins, Taj Mahal, Joan Osborne, Steve Earle, Bettye LaVette and many others.  

 Over the years, the Tribute has raised funds to help feed the hungry, build music schools in developing nations and aid local hurricane relief efforts. Since 2014, all proceeds have helped support Theatre Within’s life-affirming mission of bringing free workshops in creative expression and mindfulness to communities in need.

 In 2014, with the warm cooperation of Yoko Ono, Theatre Within established the John Lennon Real Love Award to honor an artist at each Tribute for their creative excellence, positive social impact and support of charitable causes. Most recent honorees have been Natalie Merchant, Rosanne Cash and Patti Smith.
